General Assembly (decolonization)

By a recorded vote of 76 in favour to none against, the Committee Reaffirmed the inalienable right of all peoples to self-determination and
Independence. The Committee recommended to the General Assembly that it underline Security Council resolution 1495 (2003), which expressed that organ's support of the peace plan for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara as an optimum political solution, on the basis of agreement between the two parties to the dispute over that Territory. The resolution adopted this year is balances and very similar to the resolution adopted by consensus. Morocco chose not to support the resolution this year therefore breaking the consensus. Morocco, France among others abstained.
